"The world has few secrets left and Bhutan is one of them. Cradled amidst the Himalayas a beautiful mountain kingdom Bhutan known to many as THE LAST SHANGRILA”

Kingdom of Bhutan is the only country in the world which puts happiness before development. A country where development is not measured in terms of GDP but GNH (Gross National Happiness). We are proud to say our nation was one of the last countries to introduce television in 1999.

Bhutan has banned plastic bags and tobacco on the grounds that they affect our policy of GNH. The one set of traffic lights Bhutan ever had but people found them frustrating, so they went back to a human being to control the traffic. We are a nation where we value inner spiritual happiness before materialistic development. We are proud that we are less well off financially than what we could have been as compared to some third world countries.

We were isolated from the outside world for centuries. But we fiercely guard our traditions and cultures.Every Bhutanese dreams of serving their king, their government and the people in every little way they can.We are a nation of un-spoilt natural beauty and spiritual fulfillment….a mesmerizing land with 75% of forest coverage making Bhutan one of the most environmentally fascinating tourist destination for trekking, holidaying, cultural tours etc.

Our kingdom is truly unique; we are the only independent Mahayana Buddhist country in the world. We boast of Buddhist heritage of over 1,300 years, and a legacy of more than 2, 000 temples, monasteries, dzongs and sacred sites. We are a nation with the philosophy and concepts required to ensure that the process of transformation remains anchored in the values and beliefs that have held for centuries and which continue to give meaning and direction to our lives.

When we greet one another we bow slightly and say Kuzuzangpo.

Because we believe that God resides in the heart of every human being and one has to respect that fact. We believe we are different and intend to remain so. We take pride in things we do and the legacy we have inherited. Bhutan is one of the very few nations that have preserved its culture, traditions and religion which are embodied in the way we live, our festivals, our architecture, our religious ceremonies as well as the way we dress and speak our language.

Thus ladies and gentleman, fasten your seat belts for an exotic spiritual experience! Kuzuzangpo and welcome to Bhutan.

"See Bhutan the Bhutanese way
Live in Bhutan the Bhutanese way
Cherish the memories of Bhutan in your own way"
